Congress Approves FERS Sick-Leave Credit:

"At long last! After a protracted campaign, postal and federal workers who retire under the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) will receive credit for sick leave when they retire. The new benefit was included among a number of pay and retirement provisions in a compromise version of the 2010 Defense Authorization bill, which the Senate approved 68-29 on Oct. 22."  (10/23)

It’s YOUR UNION

Welcome to the new Lehigh Valley Mail Handlers Website.  To start with we will be posting the standard info, such as the names and tours of your representatives. But in time we hope to use this Website to keep all our members updated with the latest happenings. This site will be the definitive answer to all the "rumors" you hear in this place.

Thanks for Support,

Why should I pay dues?
What will the union do for me?

Can you say “ Casual?  Yes, without a Union we’d all be Casuals. We’d be working (and I do mean WORKING) for half the pay, 6 days a week, NO vacation, NO sick leave, 10-hour days without overtime, and could be fired on the spot for any reason Management could dream up. We could even show up for work one day and find the company closed, the doors locked! No severance pay! Nothing!

What will the union do for me? What about what the Union has already done. Because of Union negotiations we have:

$20.00 per hour or more

4-5 weeks vacation

104 hours sick leave per year

No lock out-No lay off protection

Pension

Cost of Living Increases (COLA)

Contractual raises

10 Paid Holidays

Health Benefits

Uniforms or Work Clothes

Did I miss anything?

And let's not forget all the little items that make daily life a little better. Not the least of which is Seniority. We tend to concentrate on small annoyances like, “why am I being moved”, or “that’s not my job”. We forget the BIG picture. We have jobs and they’re not hard to do. Yes, the little things are important too. And the Union will back you up and do it’s best to make sure each and every one of you gets everything you’re entitled to based on the contract and the LMOU, and then some if possible. Just remember, your Union representatives are human. We do our best. All we ask of you is to support us. Support your Union.
